We are a class of 24 wonderful Year 1 children. We are taught by Mrs Turpin and are supported by Alex in the mornings and Lisa in the afternoons. We love all things nature and particularly enjoy our forest school sessions with Mrs Watkins. We hope you enjoy exploring our page and seeing all of the wonderful things we get up to in Year 1!

Christmas Party Day

The children loved the Christmas disco provided by KABs. As you can tell, they were never still and it turns out we have a magician of our own in class!

Christmas Crafts

We have had a busy week making calendars for the New Year, Christmas cards and little elf tree decorations.

Christmas Jumper Day

Children enjoyed dressing in their Christmas jumpers to raise money for Save the Children.

Fun in the snow

We have been learning about animals including humans which included earning about the senses. We enjoyed exploring our senses by smelling herbs and tasting a range of flavours. We liked some more than others as you can see by our faces!

Children have enjoyed burning off some energy in our weekly Box 2 Be Fit sessions in PE.

We have been developing our collage skills and learning about the artist Vassily Kandinski. We enjoyed making our own face mash pictures using collage to combine our faces with a partners. The end results were rather amusing!

Children dressed in yellow, spotty or Pudsey themed clothes and made donations for Children in Need.

Children enjoyed attending school in their Halloween costumes and taking part in a range of Halloween themed activities.

Author Visit

Year 1 were very excited to meet a local author who shared her book with the class. We had lots of fun role playing parts of the story and talking about friendship and our talents or successes. We were very grateful to also receive a copy of her book to take home and share with our families.

Trip to Muncaster Castle

We enjoyed a Key Stage One trip to Muncaster Castle as part of our Castles history topic. We enjoyed a 'Time Travellers' workshop where we learnt about the development of the castle and what it was like to live there.

We explored the Meadow Vole Maze, answering questions about different local animals and working as a team.

We visited the different owls and hawks in their aviaries. We enjoyed learning about their habitats and diet.

We had so much fun playing on the adventure play park after lunch.

Finally, we went to the Sky Hunters bird display which just blew us away. What a fantastic first trip we have had - Muncaster Castle was amazing!

Wheelchair Basketball

The children enjoyed a session of wheelchair basketball. It was great to see how much their confidence has grown since Reception.

We have enjoyed learning about collage and making our own simple rainbow collages using different colours of paper.
