Welcome to Class 1!
Class 1 is part of the Early Years Foundation Unit for the Nursery children. Mrs Wynne is the Nursery teacher and she is helped by Sarah Lomax, the teaching assistant.
Children are eligible to start in Nursery the term after they turn 3 years old, and so we have new entrants at the beginning of the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. All children attend each morning from 09:00 until 12:00. We also offer the extended hours from 12:00 until 15:00, which is optional. During the afternoon hours we share our learning with the Reception children for some of the time.
All children follow the seven areas of learning and development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; Physical Development; Literacy; Numeracy; Understanding the World; and Expressive Arts and Design. The curriculum and foundation unit environment is carefully planned to ensure that the emphasis is on play-based child-led learning, with the children's own interests very much at the heart of our practice. Their development is further supported and broadened through some teacher-led and topic-based learning, and the way in which children learn best is accommodated through the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning': Playing and Exploring; Active Learning; and Creating and Thinking Critically.
