Leavers assembly Friday 20th July

Lots of happy memories today as these Year 6 children move onto their next stage of their education! Good luck!

Thursday 12th July

It was Nursery sports today. Well done to all our children for taking part so enthusiastically and behaving so well!

Then we had our full school sports in the afternoon. What a glorious, sunny afternoon enjoyed by all!

Derwentwater won the team point prize this year and enjoyed a day out at the park in Keswick

Monday 9th July

Year 6 had a great leavers day out at Energi in Carlisle. The food was lovely and then they got very wet in the water at bitts Park.

Thursday 5th July

Lindsay from Clicsargent came to visit us to collect a cheque for £375 which Year 2 raised for her charity during their Bright Stars project. The children chose this charity because Louis in Year 2 was supported by them when he was very ill in the RVI Newcastle. We are all so pleased that Louis is fully recovered and doing so well now in school.

Tuesday 3rd July

Chris Wright from Wrights Sports Services led a great Duathlon in school today for KS2 children. They all did so well in the heat and kept going until the end so well done!

Monday 25th June

Jessica took part in the Cockermouth Consortium Speakers Competition and represented school extremely well.

Thursday 28th June

Our orienteers took part in the WCOC final event of the season. We won second large school and on the day, Dan won fastest Year 6. Well done everyone!

Friday 22nd June

School Council were treated to a trip to Wellington Farm for ice cream for working so hard this year and particularly recently when they have been helping the Director's H&S Committee looking at playground accidents.

Monday 18th June

Year 3 and 4 children led a staff visit to our Forest School, turning it into a tourist attraction. All the staff really enjoyed themselves, including Mrs Bewsher and I who had to do the blindfold challenge!

Thursday 21st June

Imran from the Muslim Learner Services spent the day in school this week as part of our British Values week. The children really enjoyed having him in school and learning about his faith.

Friday 15th June

All KS2 children were presented with their 'Heartbeat' certificates having completed a session on basic life saving skills and bandaging.

Friday 25th May

Our last day in the capital city! We started off at the Millennium Bridge, explored the Globe Theatre and had a workshop based on a A Midsummer Night's Dream, went on The Eye then finished the day with some time in Trafalgar Square and finally a visit and talk at The National Gallery.

Thursday 24th May

London day 2! We did lots.........Tower of London, Thames boat trip, Royal London Walk including Buckingham Palace, 10 Downing Street, St James Palace, Clarence House, Royal Parks, Horse Guards Parade, Regents Park, St Pauls Cathedral and The Lion King tonight!

Wednesday 23rd May

Day 1 in London! Great journey down and an enjoyable visit to The Natural History Museum exploring the discovery experience led by Mike. Sadly The Tower of London had to be closed early so we're heading there for our first stop in the morning.

Tuesday 22nd May

Class 2 parents were invited into school to have lunch with their children. It gave the parents a chance to experience the quality of lunches in the school and also the level of independence the children have achieved. 

Friday 18th May

Sam and Hazel from Bodyfit came to launch this year's 100 Mile Challenge. All children from Nursery upwards ran a mile loop round the school yard and now everyone has gone away to see if they can complete the challenge before the end of this academic year, staying fit and healthy at the same time.

We had a great time today dressed in red, white and blue ready for the Royal Wedding tomorrow. Lots of fantastic themed cakes were sent in and we all had a picnic outside in the sunshine!

Year 1 led assembly today and told us all about the lives of the Royal Family ahead of the Royal wedding tomorrow. They were brilliant!

Year 4 have been receiving Young Leader Training from Wrights Sporting services ready to take over this important role next year.

Monday 14th May

Well done to our mixed 7 a side team who were runners up in the Annual Rotary Football Competition yesterday. They were awarded with a special trophy from visitors who were spectating from our twin town of Marvejols.

Wednesday 11th April

What a great day we had at Hawse End Outdoor Centre, Keswick today! Lots of Key Stage 2 children and their parents, with Mrs Shankland, enjoyed a day orienteering, ghyll scrambling, archery and problem solving in lovely sunshine as part of the Family Learning experiences on offer to schools.

Tuesday 10th April

How proud are we of Luke Greenbank, one of our ex pupils, who today was a member of Team England - Commonwealth Games Men's 4x100 Medley Relay silver medal team! Here's Luke, second from the left with team mates Adam Peaty, James Guy and Ben Proud. His mum, Martha Greenbank is one of our STAs in school and all the family are on the Gold Coast supporting Luke, just as they have done since he started swimming with Cockermouth Swimming Club as a young child. A great day for the Greenbank family......Tokyo here he comes!!

Tuesday 27th March

Some Year 2 children, Miss Robinson, Mrs Greenbank and Mrs Shankland attended the Bright Stars Young Enterprise Award ceremony at Energus. Well done to all Year 2 children for their great effort in turning £50 into £800!

We had a lovely Easter service in Christchurch attended by family and friends.

Friday 23rd March

Our KABS Easter Fayre was a great success. There were lots of games for the children to play to win Easter eggs; an egg-dump, a parade of Easter bonnets, decorated eggs, a cake-stall and a raffle. 

Friday 16th March

Mr McNichol and Mr Rooney from Rotary came to present prizes for the Poetry Writing Competition. Samson was first in school with Faye coming second. Samson was then awarded a book token for coming second overall from the nine consortium schools in Cockermouth. He read out to everyone his great poem!

Friday 9th March

Alex, Che and Godfrey came to assembly to talk about the work being done this week through the church as part of their 'Moving Mountains' project. Children from KS2 talked to everyone about their experiences at All Saints Church yesterday.

Thursday 22nd February

Year 1 had a lovely trip to the New Bookshop to collect their new text for this half term's literacy work. They had some great stories read to them too! They even had a chat with the man from United Utilities about repairing drains then Mr Dobie showed everyone where the Rivers Cocker and Derwent meet in town.

Reception had a great time in the forest this week making owls out of fir cones and building homes for them

Carols Round the Tree was well attended, putting everyone in the Christmas mood and a lovely way to end the term.

We had a lovely Christmas lunch today. Lots of visitors came including Directors, volunteers and sports coaches and they enjoyed coffee and mince pies afterwards. A huge thank you to Mrs Farley and her team for the wonderful school meals we enjoy all year round, not just at Christmas.

It was the dress rehearsal for our nativity today, 'The Midwife Crisis' which was performed to our biggest invited audience ever! They were all superstars!

It was the Nursery nativity today, 'Shine Star Shine' which was performed for parents and friends. They really were all 'bright stars shining' and gave a super performance.

Today was Christmas jumper day, raising money for Save the Children Fund whilst having lots of fun!

We had a lovely Christmas service in Christchurch today. Every class performed either a poem or song and there were lots of parents and friends there too.

A lady came from The Woodland Trust to talk to all the children about looking after the beautiful world and environment we are fortunate to live in..

The choir sang on Isel Ward at Cockermouth Cottage Hospital. They all performed brilliantly and the residents enjoyed their visit.

Friday 8th December

Well done to children in Year 5 and 6 who have received their pen licences today. To receive this they have to write consistently in joined up writing, at length, in all areas of the curriculum and take pride in the presentation of all written work. A great achievement!

We're all busy practising for the nativity 'The Midwife Crisis' and the rehearsals are going really well! Well done everyone!

Monday 4th December

'Churches Together' came and shared their special massage about the birth of Jesus. We loved having them as part of our Monday assembly worship!

We held a very successful Christmas fayre, raising £821 for school funds and at the same time having a lovely, sociable evening!

A huge thank you to The Punchbowl Community pub for their kind donation to school which we have used to buy additional I Pads for the classrooms. It's very much appreciated.

Mr Strachan accompanied the choir at The Welfare Hall in the village last night to support their Christmas Fayre. They sang beautifully and enjoyed taking part in the fun afterwards!

Tuesday 21st November

Today the School Council followed the journey of the 44 shoe boxes we collected for Operation Christmas Child from the school office to the final stages of their delivery to Belarus. They visited one of the collection depots in Keswick to see the process that all the boxes go through. It was really interesting and they got to sort some boxes out and meet the Mayor of Keswick who presented them each with a certificate.

Sunday 19th November

There's a new Junior 2K Parkrun event in Keswick so some of our younger runners, plus our Head Girl Jessica who is an experienced full 5K Parkrunner, took part on a very cold and frosty Sunday morning. Some good times were achieved so well done to everyone!

Friday 17th November 

We had a fantastic day raising money for Children in Need. The children paid £1.00 each to come to school dressed in anything spotty.  We held a ‘One minute of Fame’ talent show in the afternoon  - there were lots of very entertaining acts! Finally, Pudesy arrived along with Radio Cumbria and a small group of children were interviewed. The interview is available to listen to on iplayer for up to 30 days.

Friday 6th October

We held a lovely Harvest assembly in Christchurch today, led by Reception. They shared their experience of making vegetable soup with everyone and how important it is to share and be grateful for the food we enjoy every day.

Thursday 28th September

More adventures in the Forest today with Year 6. The theme was birds and their beak adaptations which enable them to feed in the forest. There was also den building and a night line to follow, building up trust and reliance on friends.

Thursday 14th September

Year 6 had a great time on their first visit to our Forest School at Wythop. It was great to see Ms Ford too who is still leading our sessions this year!
