Reading Books-Children choose a new banded reading book every morning to read in school and at home. We also have Strive for Five. The children need to read 5 times (twice in school and three times at home). At the end of every half term the children who have read 5 times each week will receive a prize.
Library Books- We select a library book to take home and read every Friday. Please remember to bring them back on Friday so you can choose a new one!
Thank you to all the parents that came to the Phonic and Tapestry evening in school. The children are now bringing home their own reading book that they will change in school everyday independently. Please read everyday with your child and place the reading book back inside the book bag so they can pick up a new book the next day. Please also write in the reading diary when you do read with your child. Below is the link to the YouTube video on the articulation of phonics.

Letter formation rhymes
Over the past few weeks we have been learning the story of The Enormous Turnip. Last week we spent two sessions to write our own Enormous Turnip story using our story maps.
We have been making and writing in so many cards over the term. We have made Mothers Day cards, Thank You cards and we are about to begin making our Easter cards. We even make cards independently for each other!
We play lots of different games in our phonics groups. We enjoy playing the Treasure Chest game, Obb and Bob and Word Bingo.
The children are all working very hard on their reading. They read at school at least three times a week with Miss Khan, Alex or Amanda. They have also been reading at home. They are using their phonics to blend the words they are reading, they even spot tricky words!
Name Writing and Letter Formation
Every week we spend some time to write our name independently with and without our name card. Some children have been writing individual letters using our letter formation rhymes.
Beginning to Hear and Write Sounds
In the Autumn term we started to write words using our phase 2 sounds we had learnt. We labeled pictures of characters and objects from our story The Squirrels Who Squabbled. e.g. pncn (Pine cone) acn (acorn)

This term we have been learning about the woodland. We have been reading the story The Squirrels Who Squabbled. We have used our small world to act out the story as well as listening to it in a assembly with Mrs Shankland. We have started to tell the story using Talk for Writing actions.
