Communication and Language
Communication and language focuses on three key areas:
- Listening and attention
- Understanding
- Speaking
On this page you can see the activities we have been getting up to in school that help us develop our skills in this area.
Mothers Day Soap
For Mothers Day we decided to make soap as a gift for our Mummy's. First we grated soap and then we needed to melt the soap down. However, we encountered a few problems. We tried a number of different methods and finally it melted. We then had to think about what scent we would like to add to the soap. But we needed to think about what our Mummys would like not us. Finally we places it into molds and in the fridge to harden. We had lots of instructions to listening to and ideas to think about.
The next week we left all of our soap making ingredients and equipment outside. Everyone loved working together to come up with ideas of how to make soap or slime!
Space Experiments
In our two week space topic we undertook a number of experiments. We spoke about what we saw happen in the experiments and also tried to explain why it happened.
Circle Time
Every week we have a chance to sit together as a whole class or in groups to share our ideas and listen to others. We have recently been talking about Love, which is our whole school reflection area theme.
Assembly
Every week Reception children attend our Monday morning assembly and our Friday Good Learning assembly. We all sit quietly in a line with our legs crossed listening to the adult speaking, some times we learn new songs to sing with the whole school.
