Festivals Around the World
Creating our own Rangoli patterns for The Hindu festival of Diwali. Children had a choice to decorate printed patterns or create their own from scratch using repeating patterns and bright, bold colours.
Wesak is the Buddhist festival which celebrates the birthday of the Buddha. During the festival, water is poured over the shoulders of the Buddha as a mark of respect and to 'clean the slate' for a new year. Wesak lanterns are also released into the night sky, so we had a go at creating our own, decorating them with bright colours and lotus flowers.
We have been learning about different Jewish festivals. During Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, apples dipped in honey are eaten to represent a sweet new year. We certainly enjoyed trying some for ourselves!
Mapping out different celebrations and festivals carried out each year for five different religions; Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism.
