Summer 1

Easter Celebrations

The children have been celebrating Easter throughout our learning environment. We have written and created Easter cards for members of our family, learnt our Easter rhyme which we performed in church for our Easter service; explored and investigated the differences between real chicken eggs and fake eggs; hunted for chocolate eggs in the Eco Garden; taken part in the Egg Dump and worn our Easter bonnets for the parade.

On our investigation table our eggs experiment has been replaced with a small pot of caterpillars. We have been observing how the caterpillars move, eat and sleep using our magnify glasses and measuring their growth using rulers. Using information books and online videos we have been learning all about the caterpillars growth and other animals and mini beasts. We are looking forward to watching them form cocoons and finally hatch as butterflies.

Outside in the Eco Garden we used a variety of cameras and information books to identify the wild flowers we could see and photographing them. The children worked in pairs and used digital cameras, ipad's and child friendly cameras. After collecting our photos we used the pictures to help us draw a wild flower of our choice. Observing the different features of each plant.

Whitehaven Music Festival

Reception performed alongside Class 3 in the verse speaking competition. The classes worked together to learn the words to a rhyme that introduced a lot of new language to the children. They all confidently stood on the stage and joined in as we performed our poem to the audience. Well done everyone!

Our caterpillars finally hatched out of their cocoon this week! We have loved watching the butterflies emerge and slowly begin to stretch their wings. Today we look three of our butterflies outside and released them into the Eco garden.

Class Assembly

The children have taken part in our class assembly this half term. Every child had some lines to speak either by themselves or with a partner. They also learnt the words and actions for two of our rhymes and songs. They all performed with confidence and tried to use loud clear voices.
