Fantasy Stories

We have read lots of different stories about dragons and are going to have a go at writing our own. Lots of the work we have done has been to help us get good ideas for our stories.

The finished results on our board!

We love reading! We like to read on our own, with each other, with our teachers and most of all we like reading to the three gentlemen from Cockermouth Rotary who come into our class every Friday morning.

The Emperor's Egg

We loved reading this story and finding out lots of facts about Emperor Penguins. We used information books and websites to research the penguins and their lives in Antarctica.

We have been looking at traditional tales and reading lots of different fables. These are very very old stories which have a moral or a message. We have read The Ant and the Grasshopper, The Hare and the Tortoise, The Frog and the Scorpion, The Fox and the Grapes and the Lion and the Mouse. We have taken part in role play and imagined that we were the different characters in the story. We are going to choose some animal characters and write our own fables for a class book!

After we had chosen our 2 animal characters, we made a story map which was a plan of our story. Then we wrote a draft of our story before improving it all by ourselves with a special red pen! Finally we copied out our stories making sure we included all our new improvements to make it even better.

Lila and the secret of Rain.

This is a story about a little girl called Lila who lives in a village in Kenya which is experiencing a severe drought. Lila saves her village by finding out the secret of rain. This is a lovely story and ties in really well with our Geography topic which is all about Kenya too. We enjoyed some role play where we acted out the part of Lila to show what she might be thinking and feeling.

Non - Chronological Reports.

We enjoyed the story of Lila and the Rain so much that we are now preparing to write a report about life in Kenya. We have been using books, I pads and laptops to research different aspects of life in Kenya.
