Mathematics involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measures

Shape and Measure

We had fun using the balances.

Repeating Patterns

These have been really popular in the class, children have shared their knowledge of them at home and have transferred their skills into independent work in the classroom.

Fruit Kebabs

As part of our work on shape and number we made fruit kebabs. We also made a class chart on our favourite fruits.

Working Outside

We have had great fun being active outside while learning how to use tally marks to record the things we do. We threw bean bags, cycled around a circuit and knocked over cans then recorded our scores. We also found out that it is easier to line things up before you count them!

We have fun playing "Run and write" numbers in the play ground. Its a popular way of learning how to form numbers correctly and is easier for small hands when we use big playground chalks.

We had great fun making a rocket and finding out about both solid and flat shapes.

Repeating patterns on the whiteboard outside.

Jigsaws are a good way to develop spatial awareness, matching skills and observation.

Maths Workshop

Every Friday morning Class two have fun playing maths games and doing practical activities. We are helped by some parents and are very grateful to them all.

Our outside area provides lots of space for us to play. We had fun discovering what three dimensional models we could make with the construction toys.

Jigsaws are a great way to learn about shape and to develop mathematical thinking.
