Class 2

Class 2 is a class of 24 lovely Reception children, all eager to learn now that they are in full time school.

Ms Ford is the Teacher and she is helped by Mrs Greenbank and Miss Sarah Lomax in the morning and Miss Kerry Holliday and Miss Sarah Lomax in the afternoon.

All children follow the seven areas of learning and development as set out in the new 2012 Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Mornings are when the Reception children do literacy and mathematics activities and the afternoons are spent on topic work covering all aspects of the curriculum, through both play based activities and teacher led work.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Playing and co-operating well together!!

Planting daffodils with our buddies.
We had some bulbs given to us by the Rotary club so we planted them at the front of the school. Mr. Dobie helped to dig the holes.

Physical Development

Using our outdoor area to develop lots of strength and skills in movement and balance!

We love PE! We have been learning lots of positional words, like through, between, over and under - then using the apparatus to move in these places.

Communication and Language

Great listening skills!

Some of Class 2 have brought their own books into school to read to the class. Ms Ford was very impressed!

Shark in the Park

We read 'Shark in the Park' by Nick Sharratt, then used real telescopes and made some of our own too.

It was a wet and windy day when we used them!

Writing cave.
We have a writing cave in Class 2. We made it after reading 'Cave Baby' by Julia Donaldson. We go in there to write.
You Noisy Monkey
We read 'You Noisy Monkey' together and acted out the story using the masks we had made.
Story Maps
We have been working in groups with an adult writing stories and illustrating them on a long story map. The children had some great ideas.

We have been drawing round different shapes to make pictures.

3D Shapes
We have been learning all about 3D shapes and their names. We made a castle using some of the shapes. We also made some great Duplo models and wooden castles.

On Friday mornings we're really lucky to have some helpers who come in and join us for Maths workshop. It's a really popular morning with Class 2.

Maths Workshop is fun! - We are lucky so many parents come in to help.

Understanding the World

'Ourselves' topic
Mrs Hopper made some feely bags and we used our senses to feel what was inside. This was part of our topic 'Ourselves'.
Autumn Leaves
We collected some giant Autumn leaves, then used them for our class display. What beautiful shades! We made hedgehogs with the leaves.
