Geography- magical mapping.

We have been looking at lots of different maps which people use to find something or to find their way.

We each made a compass which showed the directions North, South, East and West. Maybe we could use them to find our way on an adventure!

Using an atlas

We have been using an atlas to find different features in the United Kingdom. We learnt how to use the index to find different countries, cities, islands and rivers in the 4 countries which make up the U.K. Then we had a scavenger hunt to see how many places on the list we could find and tick off.

Geography - Sensational Safari.

This term we are investigating Kenya which is in Africa and comparing it with our own country. In Literacy our book is called 'Lila and the Secret of the Rain' which is set in Kenya and fits beautifully with our safari topic.

We began investigating Kenya by flying there on a plane. It was a bit of a bumpy ride because Mrs Greenbank was the pilot! When we arrived there we had to pretend to be different African animals. Mrs Greenbank and Amanda had to guess which animals we were.

All About Kenya.

We have been finding out quite a lot of information about Kenya so we decided to make our own lap books to display some of our findings.

The Seaside.

We have been studying features of the seaside and the plants which may grow there. We also looked at and read lots of seaside poetry before writing our own poems about the sea.

We had a brilliant time at Allonby beach. We identified different features of the seaside and then we collected different items from the beach which included sea glass, feathers, pebbles, shells, seaweed, driftwood, pottery and anything else that we thought was interesting. Then we looked at different plants that grow beside the sea and finally we had a visit to the play park. The day after our trip we showed each other all our treasures from the beach and sketched some of the items we found.
