Special Events

Clip and Climb

The mobile climbing wall came to school on Thursday 20th July. Mrs Shankland demonstrated how to climb to the top - on all three faces! Class 2 all had a try and did really well!

The Buttermere Walk

What a fantastic day we had walking around the lake together. Many children walked around with their Year 6 Buddies.

R.E. Week - Hinduism

We had a really interesting week finding out about some of the things that Hindus celebrate and enjoyed our special Hindu visitor.

The Rainbow Fish Class Assembly

Class 2 all took part in our Assembly about sharing. They did very well and spoke up so everyone could hear.

Treasure Boxes

We all made and decorated our own Treasure Boxes. We brought special things into school to share, then took them home in our Special Boxes.

Easter Celebrations

We were very busy at school in the lead up to Easter. Class 2 made cards and a basket which the Easter Rabbit kindly filled with chocolate eggs! We also had an egg hunt in our Eco area, took part in the school egg dump and decorated and paraded our Easter bonnets.

100 Mile Event Launch Day

To launch this Cumbria wide event at encouraging children to walk, run, cycle, scooter or move 100 miles by 26th May we held a healthy school day. Nursery and Reception worked together completing an assault course in the hall then every Reception child ran at least one mile around the playground! A fantastic achievement if you are only 4 or 5 years old!

Special Person Coffee Afternoon

We thought it would be really nice to invite the people who are special to us and help us so much into school. We made place mats, coasters, decorated glasses and gave cards to say thank you to them. Everyone had a really happy afternoon together.

Comic Relief

This year we all had a Wacky Hair day and as usual some fabulous hair was created!

World Book Day

This year Classes 2, 3 and 4 went to The New Book Shop in Cockermouth. They shared books with their staff and exchanged their vouchers for a book. We also left the book Class 2 had made about "I Don't Want Curly Hair". The ladies there were really pleased with it. If you are in Cockermouth go in and have a look at it!

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue

As part of our topic about People Who Help Us, we visited the team building in town. Derek and Chris gave us a really interesting tour of the site, a talk and slide show about the team and a go on their climbing wall. We all found out so much-even the adults!

Visit From The Police

The Police came to visit Class 2 and Nursery and told us how they help us. We are finding out about just how many people help us at home, in school, when we are poorly and out in the wider community.

Chinese New Year

We did lots of things to celebrate Chinese New Year in class 2. We composed Dragon Dance Music, made a special booklet to take home, did dragon dances and ate Chinese food. This year is the year of the Rooster.

People Who Help us

As part of our topic we were lucky to have one of our parents come in and talk to the class about his role as an Anaesthetic Nurse. We found out what might happen if we needed an operation and how the nurses and doctors help us during our stay at the hospital. We then used our role play area, that is now a hospital, to learn how to look after our own animal patients!

Skipping Workshop

Everyone in school really enjoyed the skipping workshop we had in school. Class 2  began to learn how to skip and how important exercise is to us all.

Out and About Days

Over the coming academic year Class 2 are going to be exploring our local area and taking our learning into the outdoors.

Out and About in Harris Park

Our first visit was to the park in Cockermouth to look for signs of Autumn. We collected lots of items to use in art work back in the classroom.

Hallowe'en Disco

Many of the Reception children attended the disco and had fantastic costumes!

Christmas Visit to The Lake District Wildlife Park

We had a great time  when we visited the Park and saw lots of the animals. We really enjoyed dressing up and telling the story of the first Christmas at the living Nativity. As always, the staff put on a lovely buffet for our Christmas party.

Everyone enjoyed the outside play area too!
