Looking at the effects of refraction using water. Refraction happens when light passes through a medium such as water or glass which changes the speed that the light travels. This results in the light bending and changing direction giving the illusion that objects are bent or broken.
Making and using periscopes to investigate how reflection helps us to see. Did you know that periscopes are used on submarines to see above the water’s surface and were also used by soldiers in WW1 to see above the trenches?
We investigated how we can change the size of a shadow through carrying out a fair test. The variables we decided to keep the same were: the light source, the opaque object, the surface the shadow projects on to and the intervals of distance we measured the shadow at. The one variable we decided to change was the distance between the light source and the opaque object. After carrying out the investigation, we wrote it up as a scientific report.
Properties and Changes of Materials
Creating different mixtures of materials and using a range of methods to separate them again including sieving, evaporating, filtering and using magnets. We also made observations of different solutions to find out if a material was soluble or insoluble.

Earth and Space
What better way to end our first week than making marshmallow star constellations. Can you work out which constellations we have made? They look amazing!

Making our own view finders to test the movement of the earth. We used these to model the earths orbit around the sun.
Using Question Quibble to generate scientific questions about earth and space.
Using a range of different sized balls to show the comparative size of the sun, moon and Earth. We found the closest comparisons were using the gym ball to represent the sun, the marble to represent Earth and a dried pea to represent the moon.
Health Week - W.C 3/9.18
Well what a fantastic start to the new academic year! We kick started our Health Week by learning all about nutrition and how to maintain a healthy balanced diet. We made healthy snacks to enjoy in class such as fruit kebabs, houmous, wraps and pitta pockets.
